Victoria Beckham And Gigi Hadid Step Out In Autumn’s Key Boot Style

VICTORIA BECKHAM and Gigi Hadid have both pledged their allegiance to one of autumn/winter 2017’s key footwear trends: the heavy-duty boot.

The setting for their practical footwear debut might have been completely different – Beckham at Glastonbury Festival, Hadid on the streets of New York – but both fashion-forward females proved that it’s all about stomping into the new season.

For Beckham, her thick-soled lace-ups mark the next chapter in her flat shoe journey. She publicly hung up her signature point-toe stilettos in February 2016 when she took her post-catwalk show bow in a pair of men’s trousers, a roll-neck jumper and white Adidas trainers. Of her new practical uniform, she told The Telegraph: “I just can’t do heels any more, not when I’m working. I travel a lot.” Since then she has dabbled with chunky sandals and brogues, and saved stilettos for formal occasions.

Her step into chunky-boot territory might have been determined by Glastonbury’s fields, but realistically Beckham didn’t have to worry about the mud. The designer touched down in Worthy Farm via private helicopter and spent her flying visit in the VIP festival area. Should there have been downpour, Beckham could have followed the lead of seasoned A-list revellers Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller, and opted for Hunter or Sorel boots to keep her feet dry. Not for Beckham, who kept her eye on the trend barometer even when dancing to Ed Sheeran from her backstage spot.

On the opposite side of the Atlantic, Hadid used a pair of buttercup-yellow Dr Martens to punctuate her acid-wash jeans and ribbed white vest top. A pair of yellow-tinted sunglasses pulled the bold look together, and kept things seasonally appropriate.

The designers dictating the trend – Valentino, Alexander McQueen, The Row, to name a few – might have steered towards a black boot palette, but Hadid showed she has the confidence to put her own cheerful stamp on the trend. Her brand choice is not only a welcome throwback for anyone who stomped through their teenage years in a pair of Dr Martens, but an accessible price point for those wanting to tap into the trend now. The best part? The boots come in a myriad of safe and standout shades, so you can follow in the footsteps of both Beckham and Hadid.
